AT HOME ON THE WATERFRONT

Many swimmers, including those who swim frequently and enjoy being in water, often feel anxious about certain aspects of being immersed. Some swim with their head out of water, nervous to put their face in. Others swim lengths as fast as they can for fear if they stop they will sink to the bottom. Many hold their breath, apprehensive they will swallow water if they open their mouth.

Experiences like these are hugely common amongst many swimmers, and, despite the unease, often do not deter people from a regular visit to the pool. Some people, however, find them too uncomfortable and avoid being in the water altogether. Whether you wish to overcome deep-set fears and anxiety or generally want to improve your relationship and connection with water, learning to trust being immersed is fundamental. Trusting the water will enable you to fully enjoy your experience in it, as well allow you to obtain the most benefit.

And, as there are different dimensions to discovering this trust so too are there a multitude of different approaches to help you do so. Outlined within this section are a variety of ways to help you deepen your trust, as well as discussions exploring the significance of doing so.
